The Valley’s Best Wiffle Ball Tournament Returns October 21st At Goodyear Ballpark

(GOODYEAR, Ariz.) – The Western WIFFLE Ball Championship returns for another year of home runs and family friendly fun at its 4th annual event on Saturday, October 21, 2023. Previously held at Scottsdale Stadium, the Western WIFFLE Ball Championship is moving across the Valley to Goodyear Ballpark, Spring Training home of the Cleveland Guardians and Cincinnati Reds. The ceremonial pitch will be thrown at 9:00AM to commence the tournament.

Created by 16-year-old Logan Rose during the COVID-19 pandemic as a way to promote being outside and staying active, the annual tournament has grown to over 75 teams and has seen participants from across the country.

“Watching the Western WIFFLE Ball Championship’s growth over the years – seeing more teams, spectators and surprise guests show up and compete at the tournament has been just as exciting as it is rewarding,” said Logan Rose. “At last year’s tournament, YouTuber Eric Sim, also known as the King of Juco, came out to play which was incredible.”

Rose is the commissioner for Big League WIFFLE Ball, a six-team competitve league that has now grown to over 50 players and is based in Scottsdale, Arizona. The league has grown tremendously since its founding in 2019 and has a social media following of 75,000.

The 2023 Western WIFFLE Ball Championship will have up to 40 teams comprised of 3 to 5 players. Teams can register to compete in one of two divisions depending on competitive interests and player abilities. Due to no base running, players of all ages and athleticism are easily able to participate. Both the Competitive and Recreational Divisions will play on designated fields in a bracket-style tournament to play for their division’s trophy. All teams are guaranteed 3 pool play games before the top 8 teams participate in a single elimination bracket to determine the champions of both divisions.

In addition to league play, both registered players and spectators can take part in the Home Run Derby at home plate of the main baseball diamond. The Home Run Derby will be available to participants throughout the duration of the event until the final championship game begins at approximately 6pm. Each participant will have the opportunity to hit as many home runs as they can before they reach 7 outs. The champion of the Home Run Derby will take home a trophy of their own. Tickets to participate in the Home Run Derby can be bought ahead of time as an add-on as well as on-site.

The tournament will begin at 9:00am on Saturday, October 21st, 2023, at Goodyear Ballpark located at 1933 S Ballpark Way and end around 8:00pm after the championship game.
