COOLIDGE — The City Council last week approved annexing 193 acres between Shedd and Arica roads, which currency is a vacant parcel, for future industrial development.
The parcel is part of the Inland Port industrial area.
Development Services Director Gilbert Lopez said the annexation is needed to provide services to the area as part of future development.
He said it is better for the 193 acres to be in the city, and while there’s still no water for the site, Global Water has said it would provide service.
“It gives us more industrial land to expand,” Lopez said of the site east of Procter & Gamble’s future plant. “It gives us the opportunity to bring heavy industry to the area while not being too close to the railroad.”
