The Goodyear City Council voted 5-1 Monday to approve a use permit for a self-storage facility near the Montecito community despite objections and a notification mix-up.

Councilmember Bill Stipp was absent during the vote and Councilmember Sheri Lauritano was the lone dissenting vote.

During public comments Monday, one objecting resident said they were informed by sales associates from their respective housing development the nearby land was zoned residential.

“When we purchased these homes in 2021, we were told that the land was zoned something ‘x,’” said Estrella resident Jeff Redmon during public comments. “And after we purchased the homes, the land has been rezoned to something ‘y.’”

However, Goodyear staff told the board that Montecito planned area development or the zoning classification was rezoned for business park use in 2008.
