FLORENCE — A new 80-acre subdivision on Florence’s northern border received rezoning and other approvals July 5 from the Pinal County Board of Supervisors.
The “North Florence 80” is at the northwest corner of Magma and North Hiscox roads. It is a mile north of Arizona Farms Road and a half-mile east of North Cooper Road. It includes 298 lots for an average of 3.72 houses per acre.
County staff found the project provides for a more diverse housing product and attractive amenities and open space options to the area.
The supervisors granted a minor comprehensive plan amendment, a rezoning and a planned area development amendment. Four neighbors opposed the project, noting a desire for lower-density lots; Magma Road is subject to flooding and closures; increased traffic; loss of rural character; demand on water and sewer systems; and lack of supporting infrastructure.
