Queen Creek prepares for transfer of Colorado River water

By Daily Independent

Queen Creek will officially be accepting Colorado River water next week in a process that has been years in the making.

The town purchased water rights from a property owner in the Cibola Valley in La Paz County. The water transfer ends a five-year process that included extensive review and approval from the Arizona Department of Water Resources and the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation.

Queen Creek Mayor Julia Wheatley will be on hand for the water transfer starting at 8 a.m., Wednesday, July 19, at Desert Mountain Park, 22201 S. Hawes Road at the Desert Willow Ramada.
