CASA GRANDE — A need to upgrade facilities and increased patient demand are the primary reasons behind a projected $19.5 million in capital work at Banner Casa Grande Medical Center, according to hospital CEO John Scherpf.
Scherpf told PinalCentral work had already begun with the installation of a new stand-alone magnetic resonance imaging facility that will cost $7 million and is expected to be up and running in August 2024. At present Banner relies on a portable MRI machine.
“Since this hospital was built in 1984, it didn’t have the luxury of having an MRI in the hospital,” he said. “It’s a $7 million project and it’s going to bring a state-of-the-art MRI unit into the hospital. We started that project this month and it’ll take about 10 to 12 months for that to be completed.
“The big improvement is not only the technology, but right now patients have to be wheeled outside to get an MRI. We have a portable unit that is not far from the hospital but you have to go outside where it’s 115 degrees or rainy, windy, etc. This will really improve the type of care we’re able to provide and we’re really, really super excited.”
