Florence council moves closer on decision to annex county land

The Florence Town Council heard the first reading of an ordinance calling for the annexation of 37 acres of unincorporated land in what is known as Attaway Crossing.
The ordinance was read during the council’s Monday meeting.

Council members did not comment on the issue.
The land is generally located at the northwest corner of East Hunt Highway and Attaway Road. It is surrounded on three sides by the town. The request for annexation was made by the land’s owner, Attaway Crossing 147 LLC out of Queen Creek, and the council authorized the annexation process in February.

If the council agrees to annex the property, the town will have to provide services such as police and fire, sanitation, and upkeep and maintenance of streets and roads. As the area is surrounded by Florence on three sides, some of those services are already nearby.
