Back on the docket for nearby residents of the former Glen Lakes Golf Course is what to do with a one-and-a-half acre empty land parcel.

The city sold the 43-acre municipal golf course at the busy intersection of 55th and Northern avenues in 2019 to Towne Development, which is in the process of building a new 173-home community, Trevino at Glen Lakes, on the site. As of Friday last week, the land is graded and some streets and sidewalks are in place but no homes as of yet.

What remained after the land deal is the small acre-plus at the corner of the intersection that once housed the golf course’s parking lot and main entrance. That parcel was not part of the Towne acquisition and is still city owned.

Nearby residents met with Glendale Planning Manager Tabitha Perry in 2022 about the parcel’s zoning potential. Adding to traffic was among the chief concerns for existing homes in the neighborhood, some of which are directly across the street on 55th Avenue. New homes eventually will be right behind the new development.
