HonorHealth opposes Banner Health developing in Scottsdale

Banner Health has purchased 48 acres of land on the southwest corner of Hayden Road and Loop 101 to develop a medical campus that will serve the city of Scottsdale.

However, established health care organization HonorHealth and Scottsdale Firefighters Association oppose the development, saying it will oversaturate the area with hospital beds and strain an already struggling workforce. They believe Scottsdale is not lacking in any medical services that Banner Health would supply.

Banner Health spokesperson Becky Armendariz says the medical campus is necessary in that it will bring additional heath care choices to the area as population continues to grow, improve emergency room wait times and patient offload times for first responders, and provide a closer location to over 50,000 Scottsdale residents who rely on Banner Health insurance.

“When you add the projected 100,000 new residents by 2030, that underscores the immediate need for this medical campus,” Armendariz said.

In a June report, Maricopa Association of Governments projected Scottsdale’s total population by July 1, 2030 to be 275,700.
