Maricopa County is asking for input from Sun City and Sun City West residents on an updated plan that will look to plan for growth in a large portion of the area surrounding the communities.
The White Tank Grand Avenue Area Plan was adopted more than 20 years ago, and with the amount of growth in the area, a new plan is in the works.
This updated plan will include guiding and accomplishing coordinated development growth for present and future needs in areas such as land use, transportation, environmental planning, growth, water and energy resources and others.
Due to the significant growth since the adoption of the White Tank Grand Avenue Area Plan in 2000, the plan has to be updated. According to the Maricopa County website, Board of Supervisors Chairman Clint L. Hickman, District 4, to accommodate people and maintain what people love about Arizona, it will take smart planning.
Terri Hogan, Logan Simpson project manager who is working on the project, said the area’s growth not only includes incorporated areas like Surprise, but also the unincorporated areas. Sun City West is in an unincorporated area of Maricopa County.
Maricopa County officials are seeking input on the area plan, and residents in the Sun Cities have the opportunity to be head.
“Westward expansion and sharing ideas from residents is what the county is looking for,” Bud Meador, Property Owners and Residents Association.
