Previewing Paradise Valley Town Council’s next term

By Mackenzie Brower | YourValley

There are not many new priorities for Paradise Valley Town Council in its fall term.

Town Council will continue with similar priorities and ongoing issues at the first session back from summer break Thursday, Sept. 14.

“This is a continuing council,” Mayor Jerry Bien-Willner said. “We had a summer break and we’re back in business, so I don’t view it as a new term. In that vein, I see a continuation of what we’ve been doing, continuing to prioritize public safety, continuing to listen when things come up and being prepared to deliver solutions for our residents.”

The budget and policy “look backs” are a few items that are assessed every year. In the next fiscal year budget, Gov. Katie Hobbs’ elimination of local rental tax will have to be considered.

Look backs are when staff create a report and take public comment on a policy a year after it was enacted, the mayor explained. This helps the council see if they’re achieving what they meant to and can make necessary adjustments.

New applications for resort development may slow down as Andaz Scottsdale Resort & Bungalows, Scottsdale Plaza Resort & Villas, and Smoke Tree Resort finish up special use permit amendments and construction.
