A proposed daycare facility in a posh part of Mesa had a smoother go with the city after transforming the designs for a 14-classroom, 240-student facility on the northwest corner of Brown Road and Val Vista Drive.

Canadian childcare network BrightPath is expanding into the Phoenix-metro area this year with a rollout of seven facilities, including two in Mesa that are working their way through the city’s review process this summer.

The company currently has 140 locations across the U.S. and Canada, according to documents submitted to the city.

BrightPath’s website says it is “a world-class and innovative provider of early childhood education that follows a unique curriculum.”

They found the design of the two-story, 15,000-square-foot facility out-of-character with the Citrus Sub-Area in North Mesa.

Some likened the appearance of the stucco building to an extended-stay hotel.
