Surprise is narrowing its options on changing a city ordinance to eventually make big rig parking on right of way and fields illegal, while providing a side street for the semis to park.

City staff are examining the viability of an unused road near Solar Canyon Way, as well as Sarival Road from Waddell to Greenway.

Transportation Director Eric Boyles stated in an email Aug. 25 that city staff did not have any targeted date to return the item to the council.

“The city is currently evaluating numerous options based on the feedback that was received from City Council. The City will be further evaluating any challenges and/or obstacles to any of the potential sites that were discussed, including making sure to avoid disturbance to residential areas, as well as looking for other potential sites where we may be able to be to find a solution to address the concerns we have heard from our residents,” Boyles said.

Sarival was not among the three roads presented as big rig parking options by city staff at the Aug. 15 City Council work session. Council member Ken Remley requested its inclusion.
