Job Description
This recruitment is for one position where the selected candidate will be placed in either an Economic Development Specialist or a Senior Economic Development Specialist position depending on qualifications and prior experience.
Economic Development Specialist: FSLA Non-Exempt ($49,597.00 – $52,108.00 starting annual salary range)
Under general supervision of the Economic Development Director, assists with community organizations, institutions, and businesses in the research, preparation, and implementation of economic development plans, programs, and services.
Senior Economic Development Specialist: FSLA Exempt ($60,286.00 – 63,337.00 starting salary range)
Works independently with community organizations, institutions, and businesses in the research, preparation, and implementation of economic development plans, programs, and services. Generates leads or prospects in targeted areas, creates marketing and promotional materials to expand the local economy by advocating and retention of new businesses to sustain and strengthen the community’s economic base.

Candidates who are selected for appointment may be required to be fingerprinted, if 18 or older; successfully complete a background investigation, employment verification and may be subject to a drug/alcohol test, medical, polygraph and/or psychological evaluation. Candidates who are appointed will be required to possess a valid driver’s license to operate a vehicle in Arizona, or meet the transportation needs of the position.
Minimum Qualifications
Economic Development Specialist:
Graduation from a college or university accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education or Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) with a Bachelor’s degree in, Urban Planning, Business Administration, Economics, Public Administration, or related field.
Senior Economic Development Specialist:
Graduation from a college or university accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education or Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) with a Bachelor’s degree in, Urban Planning, Business Administration, Economics, Public Administration, or related field, and three (3) years of paid full-time experience in economic development, commercial real estate, community development, or a related field; OR a Master’s in Public Administration, Business Administration, Urban Planning, or current enrollment in an MPA, MBA, or MUP program.
Physical Demands and Working Environment
Work is performed in a standard office environment. May require frequent sitting and continuous operation of a personal computer. May be required to perform a full range of motion with lifting and/or carrying items weighing up to 25 pounds.
