The Florence Town Council voted Wednesday to terminate Russell Martin as town manager at a special council meeting.
The council voted 6-1 to end Martin’s employment. Only Councilmember Jose Maldonado voted in favor of keeping Russell.
The entire meeting took about 15 minutes.
“I was disappointed in tonight’s vote to remove Mr. Martin as the town manager,” Greater Florence Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Roger Biede stated in an email to the Independent. “In his time in Florence, Mr. Martin had made some great strides in rebuilding the communication between the town and the business community, he was a great supporter of the new businesses opening in our Town, and genuinely understood the challenges we face as a historic community. I am sure that he will be successful at this next town manager job and they will be lucky to have him.”
