Surprise breaks ground on new pool, fire station

Patrick Duffy knows firsthand how tough it is for a club swimmer in Surprise these days.

The city councilmember from west Surprise’s District 3 spent the last three weekends in cities not close to Surprise to watch his daughter compete.

That’s because a crowded situation of schools and club teams using the city’s main pool, the Surprise Aquatic Center, has pushed local swimmers to teams outside of Surprise.

But Duffy and other city officials are hoping those days will soon be over with the official groundbreaking for the city’s third pool combined with Surprise’s ninth fire station on 19 acres at the corner of Cactus and Perryville roads.
