A group of Carefree residents has united to save open land in town for the community’s future enjoyment.
Carefree Park’s mission is to acquire, preserve and make accessible a 48-acre, natural Sonoran desert parcel of State Trust land across from the SkyRanch Airport, bordered by Stagecoach Pass and Cave Creek and Mule Train roads.
Community residents and neighbors Wendy Mattes and Daniel Crespo-Dubie formed Carefree Park as a 501(c)(3) organization last November in order to raise the funds to purchase the parcel themselves and develop it into a park. Currently, the nonprofit has three board members and about 75 volunteers in support of the initiative.
