[OP-ED] Citizen input key for Pinal County transportation projects

In the heart of the desert, Pinal County is home to scenic views, rugged independence and a storied history of rural living. Over the past 40 years, we have also been home to some of the fastest growth in the nation. Our population has increased from under 100,000 in 1985 to nearly half a million residents today. During that time, we have worked hard to find the balance between the suburban and rural lifestyles – protecting our quality of life, attracting jobs, and investing in well-connected transportation.We have made this commitment to road and street improvements not only to keep up with growth, but also to ensure that we can address congestion and public safety issues. One of the critical ways we fund essential transportation projects is through the half-cent road maintenance and improvement fund that was passed in 1986 and renewed in 2005. It provides the sole funding source for our Transportation Improvement and Maintenance Program (TIMP).
