The city of Avondale’s much-anticipated new Aquatic Center is currently undergoing its build, and Mark Foote, aquatic manager for Avondale’s Parks and Recreation Department, updated Avondale City Council on happenings and plans for the facility when it opens at a recent city council meeting.
The project’s budget is $32.5 million and is currently on budget, according to Foote.
“We’re super excited with where the project is and where we’re going,” he said.
The center is currently a 10-lane competition pool with a play pool that has some water features and amenities that, according to Foote, are similar to other aquatic centers around the Valley. The build will add to that with a competition pool, play pool and lazy river, among other amenities.
One of the things currently being completed — of the many — is shade structure going up throughout the center.
“We have a lot of shade around the facility, which will be nice for our residents and for all of the activities we have planned.”
Though the build is on budget, it is a bit late, as everything is expected to be completed in January.
