Bond measures officially pass in Surprise

Maricopa County Recorder’s Office final results officially show Surprise voters approved general obligation bond funding for projects related to public safety and transportation.

Question 1, which dealt with transportation, passed with 57.3% voting yes. The $66 million transportation bond will fund road improvements to reduce traffic congestion and improve traffic safety, including segments of Waddell, Happy Valley and Cactus roads and 163rd Avenue.

Question 2, which focused on public safety, was approved by 59.3% of Surprise voters. The $34 million public safety bond will fund the expansion of public safety facilities, including a fire station, a police substation and the acquisition of land for additional public safety facilities.
