Don’t read this while driving

By Phil Riske | Senior Writer/Reporter

You can’t help but have seen the safety promotions the Arizona Department of Transportation launched  2017 to reduce accidents and traffic violations on the state’s freeways. In a contest, ADOT asked citizens to submit (character-limited) slogans or sayings for the department’s overhead digital alert signs.

The entries touched on everything from drinking while driving and driving while  texting. The initial  contest received more than 6,700 submissions, including 10 from me, and the agency selected its top two.

With the exception of the winners, the rest were lame.

“Don’t drive intexticated” was excellent. “Get your head out of your app . . .” was very good.

The purpose of this writing is to ask you to support my entry in the next call for slogans as a write-in candidate. Such support can be noted in our comments box at the end of this column.

We’re in a new political era now with Donald Trump seeking reelection. In that spirit, here’s my entry as approved by President Biden:

“Making America Brake Again.”
