COOLIDGE — Salt River Project and NextEra Energy Resources opened a battery energy storage system at Saint Solar Energy Center in Coolidge.

They had a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Dec. 14 at 6536 E. Steele Road.

The 100-megawatt system will store the energy produced by the center, which opened in 2020 to serve SRP commercial customers.

It stores energy from the sun during the day and supports the power system with stored energy during peak demand such as summer evenings.
