CASA GRANDE — Concerned residents of the G Diamond Ranch Reserve community won a round after a site plan proposing a 120-unit apartment complex at the southeast corner of Kortsen Road and Colorado Street was denied by the Planning and Zoning Commission on Thursday night.
In a marathon hearing that lasted nearly four hours, loud applause rang from a packed gallery when a final vote of 5-1 was taken on a motion to deny Utah-based applicant Travis Taylor of Weststates the request to build a two-story development on 10.2 acres that would incorporate nearly 12 dwelling units per acre.
A key factor that brought about the denial was traffic concerns raised by nearby residents and commissioners. Increased peak-hour congestion and difficulty in turning were some of the examples raised by the opponents of the development.
