Changes to city zoning code designed to incentivize affordable housing and sustainable building may be on the way.
Last week, Flagstaff City Council gave the first of two approvals needed to make the changes happen.
Overall, the changes in new subdivisions in Flagstaff could help further city goals around affordable housing and the climate emergency.
Previously, when creating a new subdivision, developers simply had to comply with a number of development and design standards. But those previous design standards did nothing to promote several of the city’s top priorities, such as housing and sustainability, said Tiffany Antol, the city’s zoning code manager.
