MARICOPA — As Rich Vitiello’s term as vice mayor of the Maricopa City Council comes to an end, it was a new councilmember’s turn to sit alongside Mayor Nancy Smith.
At Tuesday night’s city council meeting, Vitiello nominated Councilmember Amber Liermann to serve as the next vice mayor of the council.
“This is not an easy decision,” Vitiello said. “They all can do this job…I chose Amber because of her perseverance.”
The vice mayor serves to fill-in for the Mayor as needed at events and council meetings. Smith said this position requires an individual who can be available for not only the mayor but also the city as a whole.
