Town Council on Monday night voted in favor of administering a $10 million federal grant toward construction of a 208-apartment complex near the intersection of Saguaro Drive and W. Wickenburg Way. The decision came at the end of a four-hour meeting on a 4-2 split vote, and was a turn-around from the decision Council made on the same measure a month ago.
In early November, Council denied the measure on a 1-5 vote. Housing developer Gorman & Co. was selected by Maricopa County to receive $10 million of the county’s $65 million share of federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) monies to help build apartments for households “which earn between 30% and 80% of the AMI” (Area Median Income). Like other projects of this type, for the money to be awarded for a project in Wickenburg, the Town must enter into to an Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) with the County.
