The Yuma County Board of Supervisors approved a special use permit requested by Bio Crypto Miners for a solar power generating facility and associated equipment on 40 acres in Wellton.
The property is located on the southwest corner of County 10th Street and Avenue 37E.
The proposed data production center will be powered by solar panels and will not be connected to any power utility.
The crypto mining business uses specialized computers or graphic processing units, according to Ibrahim Osman of Osman Engineering, agent for Bio Crypto Miners Inc.
“These GPUs generate the currency (such as bitcoin), which is relatively a new issue,” he said.
