Developer to bring more than just home improvement to Maricopa

Commercial development in Maricopa has its highs and Lowe’s.

For the big blue box store, it’s about to start riding a high.

Phoenix-based Thompson Thrift confirmed plans to break ground on a development project that includes Lowe’s Home Improvement in April, according to a press release issued Monday.

The developer finalized its $9.25 million purchase of 20 acres in the South Bridge Marketplace — located on the northeast corner of John Wayne Parkway and Honeycutt Avenue — last summer for the home improvement store, as well as other retail stores and restaurants.

On Monday, the Planning and Zoning Commission completed its review of a major development review permit for Lowe’s permits. It is expected to be approved by city council at a later date, after which construction can begin.
