CASA GRANDE — The path to solving one of the top transportation problems in Pinal County and Arizona cleared perhaps the last major financial hurdle Monday as it was announced that the federal government would be providing necessary funds to widen Interstate 10 in the Gila River Indian Community.
The U.S. Department of Transportation announced it will be awarding a grant of $95 million to the Arizona Department of Transportation to supplement the hundreds of millions of dollars already allocated by the state to get the interstate widened from two to three lanes in both directions between Chandler and Casa Grande.
A copy of the award announcement was provided to PinalCentral through the office of Rep. Juan Ciscomani, who touted the need for this project. The announcement said the funds would be used for the widening as well an improved interchange at State Routes 387 and 187 (Pinal Avenue) and a new interchange at Seed Farm Road.
