Future of Mesa post office coming to a head

City leaders made it crystal clear at a study session last week that they want a post office to remain in downtown Mesa at Center and 1st Streets.

But the future of the circa 1971 post office and sorting facility is up in the air as a long-term ground lease with a private developer nears expiration in May of 2025.

Downtown Transformation Manager Jeff McVay told the council that at the end of the lease, the ownership of the site and the building will revert to the city.
