Thursday, the city of Glendale announced the appointment of John Kennedy as its parks and recreation director.
Kennedy brings more than three decades of experience running parks and recreation systems in Arizona and the Midwest, including serving as the assistant director of parks and recreation for Glendale since 2021.
“John is a natural fit as he has been working closely with the department in a senior leadership role,” stated Glendale City Manager Kevin Phelps in a press release. “He understands the priority we have set with restoring and rebuilding our parks, and his vast leadership experience is needed for the team to continue to thrive.”
Former director Jim Burke retired Dec. 12 and Kennedy has served as interim director since.
