At the request of a resident, Wickenburg Town Council has agreed to scrutinize the zoning history on about 15 acres at the corner of Saguaro Drive and W. Wickenburg Way where 208 apartments are proposed.
The proposed complex – which has not yet been approved to be constructed – raised the ire of surrounding residents in late 2023 when developer Gorman & Company asked the Town of Wickenburg to enter an intergovernmental agreement (IGA) with Maricopa County to get the project started. The IGA, approved by Council in December, provides $10 million in federal grant money to flow through the county and then be administrated by the Town of Wickenburg to benefit the developer. According to discussion at council meetings in November and December, $2.8 million of the grant is intended to purchase the acreage from the Wellik Foundation.
