Casa Grande commission considers requests for senior development

CASA GRANDE — The Planning and Zoning Commission turned down a zoning request and major site plan for an over-55 three-story development called Olas Senior Living at 340 N. Pottebaum Ave.

Commissioners voted 5-2 to deny both requests after hearing staunch opposition from nearby residents, including former Casa Grande Mayor Chuck Walton. Privacy, traffic and property values were the main concerns that residents spoke of.

Applicant Christopher Steinle on behalf of site owners Joseph and Florence Oladokun, who also reside at the Pottebaum site, were seeking to build a three-story complex on a 5-acre footprint that would incorporate 72 units at a density of 14.4 dwelling units per acre accompanied with pickleball courts, a community center and pool.
