Scottsdale officials fear state powerplay on zoning

Scottsdale elected officials say Republicans who control the Arizona Legislature are overreaching in trying – again – to limit the ability of cities and towns to set minimum standards for single-family homes.

“This is another misguided attempt by the legislature to take away local control,” Councilman Tom Durham said.

“The City of Scottsdale is in the best position to determine what is best for its own citizens,” he said. “This would be a major mistake, just as the legislature  made a serious mistake in overriding local control for short-term rentals.”
