Supervisors grant permit for solar facility in Tacna

The Yuma County Board of Supervisors approved a solar power facility for the first cobalt sulfate production facility to be built in the United States. Cobalt sulfate is used in batteries for electric vehicles.

EVelution Energy is building the facility on 138 acres of undeveloped desert terrain located on the northwest corner of the alignment of Avenue 47½ E and Old Highway 80 in Tacna, Ariz.

EVelution requested a special use permit to allow a solar power generating facility and associated equipment on the 154-acre parcel zoned Rural Area-40 Acre Minimum.
