MARICOPA — Plans continue for the University of Arizona’s expansion on land currently owned by the university, a spokesperson shared at the most recent City Council meeting.

“The idea that surfaced was to, not sell, but reallocate areas of this acreage to be repurposed for greater benefit,” said Malcolm Green, University of Arizona director of growth initiatives, on Feb. 6.

In 2023, the university was awarded a $400,000 grant from the U.S. Economic Development Administration, one of the largest grants in Arizona, Green said. Following the accrual of funding, a feasibility study took place to determine the best use to bring needed academic and technological upgrades to the area.
