ELOY — The City Council Monday received a presentation on the half-cent sales tax continuation that will be before voters this year.
Christopher Wanamaker, county engineer, said Eloy in the last year received $1 million from this sales tax.
The half-cent sales tax is used mainly for road pavement and improvements and was started in 1986 but has to be approved by voters every 20 years.
Wanamaker said a lot has changed since 1986 when the county had an estimated population of 100,000 people compared to the 467,000 now, meaning there are more roads that need to be maintained and 2,000 roads in unincorporated communities along with more motorists.
