New housing permits are strong in the Phoenix market despite reports that permitting activity in the area is declining, according to Jim Daniel, a housing analyst of RL Brown Housing Reports.
This January, the Phoenix market had a 224% increase in new construction permits compared with last year at the same time, Daniel said.
There were 2,350 new construction permits this January compared with 724 permits in January 2023.
In 2023, new housing permits were down 5.7% from the previous year in the Phoenix market — which includes Maricopa and northern Pinal counties, he said.
