Avondale Mayor Weise delivers final State of the City

By Kylie Werner | West Valley View

Avondale Mayor Kenn Weise entered his final State of the City address to a standing ovation, as the opening notes of Van Halen’s “Jump” blared through the speakers.

Before the retiring mayor gave his State of the City address, he looked back at the city’s 2023 accomplishments.

“Avondale’s population is approaching 100,000 people, and we’re an incredibly diverse city,” said Weise, whose last day is Dec. 31. “The city is served by 800 dedicated employees, and every day they deliver vital city services not only to our residents but to all of our businesses and the people who come to visit us every day.”

Weise started his glance back at the previous year noting that in 2023 the “eyes of the nation” were on Avondale as it hosted two NASCAR races, including the championship. Avondale is revving up to host its fifth NASCAR Championship this year.
