FLORENCE — Three years ago in Gilbert, economic development professionals were talking about how to help a particular new business succeed.
Economist Jim Rounds talked about regulations and taxes. Someone else talked about economic development tools. When the business owner himself finally spoke, he said, “If you could just pave the cul-de-sac outside of our building — right now our trucks are turning around in the mud — if you could just pave that thing, we’re good.”
“I’ve never forgotten that,” Rounds told the Pinal County Board of Supervisors Wednesday. A magazine for economic developers publishes a Top 10 list of what industry site selectors are looking for, and transportation is always in the top three, he said.
