Florence councilmember resigns

Michelle Cordes has resigned as a member of the Florence Town Council in order to run for mayor.

Cordes’ resignation was effective Thursday, March 28 and will be formally announced at the council’s Monday, April 1 meeting as talks begin on a possible replacement.

Cordes, known for being a firebrand on council in her efforts to encourage transparency, was reelected in July 2022. That leaves more than two years on her term.

In her resignation letter, Cordes gave no hint about her political future.
