Self storage facilities have become prevalent throughout the city of Peoria.
There are 47 of these businesses in and around Peoria, and while the city says some sites are uniquely suited for self-storage facilities, when they consume the best-positioned sites, it reduces the opportunities for higher order economic expansion and balance.
Because of this, the city planning department has been looking at ensuring the best-positioned land remaining within Peoria is better safeguarded.
The city council April 16 approved code amendments staff says will accomplish this.
Deputy Planning Director Lorie Dever said the code modifications are reasonable and balanced.
