CASA GRANDE — Arizona Sonoran Copper Company CEO George Ogilvie says Cactus Mine, which sits on the outskirts of Casa Grande, has a staggering potential of producing 10 billion pounds of copper once it is up and running.
According to Ogilvie, the mine, which was formally known as Sacaton Mine, is undergoing a prefeasibility study that has identified large deposits of copper underground with an expected mine life of between 18 and 20 years. He is extremely confident in the prospects, he told the Casa Grande Chamber of Commerce’s Biz Outlook Luncheon at The Property Conference Center.
“I would expect in the next six to 18 months, the number of 7.4 million pounds is going to go north of 10 million pounds of copper,” he said. “Just this morning copper was kind of playing around with $5 a pound of copper,” he said of the price.
