Residents filled the Peoria city council chamber May 7 to get their first bits of information on an airpark feasibility study intended gauge the market demand for an airpark in the city.
The study is one of six that will be forthcoming to inform how feasible a general aviation reliever facility – limited to light and midsize business jets and other aircraft – would be as a revenue generator for the city.
Eric Pfeifer, principal at Coffman Associates Airport Consultants, who conducted the study, said there is “very, very strong demand” for an airport in Peoria, and is worthy of further study.
“That is really where the feasibility study leads off,” he said. “And the whole purpose of the next steps is to look at, ok, where is that airport going to best fit into the community and what are the environmental impacts of that?”
