FLORENCE — With continued concerns about bringing additional traffic to the busy intersection of Hunt Highway and Attaway Road, the Town Council approved rezoning for two housing and commercial areas Monday.

Councilmember Nicole Buccellato voted against the development on the west side, called Attaway Crossing. “I think we need to do better, especially in this area; this is a disaster,” she said. New Councilmember Cathy Adam abstained from the discussion and vote on both developments because she had previously heard them on the Planning and Zoning Commission.

The 147-acre Attaway Crossing will have 541 home lots and 13 acres of commercial property. The other is 36 acres known as Northeast Corner and will feature drive-thru businesses and smaller storefronts.
