One of the Valley’s busiest homebuilders to get new CEO

John Johnson, CEO of David Weekley Homes, is set to retire in October.

One of the busiest homebuilders in the Valley will be getting a change of leadership later this year.

Houston-based David Weekley Homes announced May 21 that CEO John Johnson will retire on Oct. 1 after about 20 years in the role. Immediately taking his place will be Jay A. Brown, the former CEO of Crown Castle Inc. (NYSE: CCI), which is also based in Houston.

David Weekley Homes, which has offices in Tempe, is one of the more active builders working in the Valley. It ranked No. 21 on the Business Journal’s most recent list of the Largest Phoenix-Area Homebuilders, with 225 housing starts and 237 closings in 2022. In 2023, David Weekley was No. 17 for total closings nationwide, with 5,433 closings, according to trade website Builder’s top 100 list.
