Gov. Katie Hobbs recently signed a bill that will allow owners of single-family homes to build at least one attached and one free-standing accessory dwelling unit, or casita, on their lots.
Originators of the bill say this will help address the state’s housing shortage, but it is up in the air as to how this new law may affect housing in Peoria.
Peoria’s Planning Director Chris Jacques said while the city has worked with a few builders on specific standard plans with semi-independent living areas, Peoria does not have an ADU ordinance on the books or in progress.
