Gilbert water park remains on a drawing board

Five years after the much-touted news of a 25-acre water park – where people can surf in the desert – coming to Gilbert, dirt has yet to be turned on the site.

Since the 2019 announcement, the ownership has changed, as has the project’s name. The opening date also has been pushed back a number of times for the private project being built on town-owned land adjacent to Gilbert Regional Park.

“The Cactus Surf Park group is still working on an updated design of the project,” town spokeswoman Kailey Latham said in an email last week. “They have been expanding some amenities and the retail component of the project.
