The city of Goodyear is addressing challenges brought on by rapid growth. In the past four years, the city’s population has swelled more than 15%.

“We’ve had growing pains,” Mayor Joe Pizzillo said.

The first challenge that Pizzillo discussed was traffic and congestion. According to Pizzillo, when the traffic department looks to address these challenges, they look at signalization and flow to the city.

“We do have a CIP project that is going to address a lot of that,” Pizzillo said.

“I believe a couple hundred million dollars we have for capital projects that’s going to deal with our road system to try to get people moving through more efficiently. … Typically, development does its half-street improvements in front of its property when they come in. That creates roads that have two lanes, three lanes, two lanes, three lanes, and that creates a real bottleneck. So, what we’re going to try to do with that money in the budget … is streamline some of that and make those improvements within the city.”
