Sissoo tree war may end soon in Scottsdale neighborhood

(Disclosure: Rose Law Group represents Arcadia at Silverleaf residents against needless destruction of trees.)

After a nearly a four-year legal battle over sissoo trees in the plush Arcadia at Silverleaf neighborhood, a conclusion might be reached within a month, according to the man who has sued the homeowners’ association over the trees.

The dispute centers on about 1,000 sissoo trees the community developer planted when the neighborhood of million-dollar homes, which is part of the larger DC Ranch Subdivision, was originally built. Many find the trees beautiful but the roots are invasive and known for breaking water and sewer lines in people’s homes as well as things like uplifting sidewalks.

The homeowner’s association began removing the trees, but some homeowners in the 123-lot community didn’t want them removed. Resident Tom LaPorte, with the financial backing of other community homeowners, sued the homeowners’ association in Maricopa County Superior Court.
